Bastrop is a beautiful city only 30 miles east of Austin. Because of the tall Pine trees and open space a lot of people choose to live here and they don’t mind the commute from Bastrop to Austin. Driving from Austin to Bastrop you will pass a few communities before you reach Bastrop. The first community you will pass in Garfield, the second is Del Valle, the third is Cedar Creek. There is a lot of open space and farm land. Houses are affordable, cost of living is low. The view is breath-taking.
Historic Downtown Bastrop
Once you’re in Bastrop you can visit the historic town and see the shops with their country appeal. The homes that surround downtown Bastrop are all well kept and the town is very welcoming. There is a large variety of restaurants to choose from. One that I really enjoy when in I’m in Bastrop is located in the middle of town on Chestnut Street called “Ramos.” It is a very good Mexican Restaurant. Don’t the outside appearances scare you. The food is really good and the service is wonderful!
Bastrop Area Parks
People from all around go to Bastrop State Park to camp in the mist of the towering Pine trees. The lake here is usually warm so you don’t have to worry about jumping in water that is too cold. You can rent cabins (call and make reservations way in advance!), put up tents to camp, go fishing, hiking, or biking. Enjoy the woods, explore! There is so much to do. It really is a wonderful city!
Surrounding schools usually take field trips to “McKinney Roughs” in Bastrop County. My son and I went with his school field-trip and he really enjoyed the canoe ride, and the experiments that the instructors were showing him. I know people who live here and they wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Bastrop still feels country. For more hustle and bustle, one can just hop in car and take a short drive into the big city – Austin.
